The key problems facing driverless cars
By The Car Expert
In 2020, driverless cars will no longer be a thing of the future. It will be present-day technology. But just like with any other new and advancing technology, it doesn’t come without its own obstacles it needs to face.
Companies and research organisations have been conducting experiments on automating cars from as early as the 1920s, developing prototypes and trialling the vehicles out. The biggest achievement came in 2013 when four U.S states (Nevada, California, Michigan & Florida) passed laws permitting autonomous cars. Flash forward to 2015, and fully autonomous cars are now being tested on public roads.
The technology definitely offers up some fantastic advantages including the likelihood of fewer traffic collisions – especially ones caused by human error. The cars will also help to reduce parking scarcity, as cars can drop passengers off and then drive to a remote location to park and returning when needed. However, there are several key potential problems with driverless cars that will need to be addressed before 2020, with solutions yet to be agreed upon or made viable.
