ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR PROACTIVE TELEMATICS
Onboard telematics for vehicles is a huge market :
Appications are :

. IoT for ads and marketing
. UBI (Usage Based Insurance)
. and now : ROAD SAFETY
Road Safety is a very complex filed of study where everyone thinks he/she knows almost everything (because we are drivers) but that is much more complex than it seems :
. there is a theory of risk (triangle of risk by Frak E. Bird) : quite no one has read it carefully
. there are some characteristics that are not that trivial :
. risk is NOT probability
. risk cannot be observed via a frequency of accident occurence
. risk is mostly a matter of human knowledge
. 75% of driving risk is due to a driving behaviour that is inadequate to road infrastructure
complexity (although most drivers think risk is due to the other cars and other usrs of the road)
So it is not possible to observe accidents in order to build a risk assessment system : risk is the state that exists BEFORE accident and that leads only sometimes to accident, most of the time it leads to what road safety experts call a "near-miss".
But there is a team (NEXYAD) that has been working on near misses observation during 15 years and that developed an Artificial Intelligence _ based technology that computes onboard, in real time, at each moment, the driving risk that the driver is currently taking. This technology is calles SafetyNex.
Because th risk is an anticipation of possible accident, and because it is computed in real time, it is then possible to alert driver BEFORE danger when driving behaviour is inadequate to road infrastructure ahead (example : there is a school after the curve, you can't see but there is an insection, etc).
It has been shown that this technology, integrated as a proactive tlematics tool, into smartphone, electronics device, dashcam, reduces accident rate by 20%.
And this make a huge ROI (Return On Investment) becaus it means :

. 20% less severe injuries (number of days off, price for medicine, ...)

This technology is now available (integratd into their products by telematics companies) for fleets and insurers. It brings the ROI that can trigger massive deployment investment.
