THE ULTIMATE SOLUTION FOR INSURANCE COMPANIES THAT NEED ONBOARD RISK ASSESMENT : SafetyNex

NEXYAD explains clearly why the usual telematics systems CANNOT predict the risk of accident because they make WRONG HYPOTHESIS (for instance : severe braking as an indicator of bad driving). NEXYAD has been working for 15 year on risk of accident computing and explains the methodology and all the results using SafetyNex. This paper is French spoken (under translation)  Calcul du risque d’accident pris par les conducteurs. Fév 2016 (pdf) To read more : http://nexyad.net/Automotive-Transportation/?p=1838

Laser Breakthrough Could Speed the Rise of Self-Driving Cars

Google's self-driving car relies on a roof-mounted LIDAR sensor to see the world around it.   The eyes of a self-driving car are called LIDAR sensors. LIDAR is a portmanteau of “light” and “radar.” In essence, these sensors monitor their surroundings by shining a light on an object and measuring the time needed for it to bounce back. They work well enough, but they aren’t without their drawbacks. Today’s self-driving cars typically use LIDARs that are quite large and expensive. Google, for instance, used $80,000 LIDARs with... Data Fusion and Artificial Intelligence for ADAS and Antonomou car

NEXYAD proposed a new way for data fusion in 2 steps : . Step 1 : data fusion  On ths level, modules c omminucate together in a dynamic way (there may bedifferential systems if outputs are connected to inputs. On the above diagram, VisiNex measures visibility, RoadNex detects the roadin front of the vehicle. Its inputs are both image (from a camera) and Region ofInterested that comes from SafetyNex (that is a connected object that reads themap in front of the vehicle). VisiNex may change tuning parameters of RoadNex and... [Lire la suite]

Researcher Hacks Self-driving Car Sensors

By Mark Harris The multi-thousand-dollar laser ranging (lidar) systems that most self-driving cars rely on to sense obstacles can be hacked by a setup costing just $60, according to a security researcher. “I can take echoes of a fake car and put them at any location I want,” says Jonathan Petit, Principal Scientist at Security Innovation, a software security company. “And I can do the same with a pedestrian or a wall.” Using such a system, attackers could trick a self-driving car into thinking something is directly...
