Velodyne's Sensor cuts self-driving car costs

You can't buy one yet, but the autonomous vehicle just got a little cheaper. As long as Google Inc. has been testing its experimental self-driving car, the costliest bit of hardware has been its rotating roof-mounted turret, which uses a laser-based radar system called lidar to map the car's surroundings in three dimensions. New Toshiba image-recognition processors for ADAS; night-time predestrian detection and 3D reconstruction

Toshiba Corporation will expand its line-up of image-recognition processors for automotive applications with the launch of the TMPV760 series. Sample shipments of the first device, TMPV7608XBG, will start in January 2015, with mass production scheduled for December 2016 onwards. With TMPV7608XBG, Toshiba is supporting the realization of next-generation Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). International Chair in automated driving driven by Mines ParisTech

Renault is not the only one to occupy the land in the area of automated driving. Fatigue sensor: When EPFL innovates

Fatigue and drowsy driving are often the cause of accidents of traffic. Several drowsiness detection systems already been tested in practice.
