Rinspeed Etos – BMW i8-based self-driving concept

Wacky concept car builder Rinspeed is at it again, this time showing its latest creation, the Rinspeed Etos, away from Switzerland for the first time – at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Like the Budii before it, the new self-driving car is based on a BMW i model, this time the RM1.2 million BMW i8. It’s inside where the Etos is a real departure from the car on which it’s based. The i8’s swooping dashboard has been replaced by twin rectangular “shelves,” with one of them storing the ZF TRW steering wheel when... [Lire la suite]

Hanging out in Volvo’s “Concept 26,” a reinvented seat for a self-driving car

Watch this video on The Scene.     When people imagine the future of self-driving cars, they might think of steering wheel-less pods with swivel chairs and a lounge-like cabin atmosphere. Just program your destination into the vehicle and take a seat, as blissfully unaware of the ensuing traffic as you would be on a train. But Volvo doesn’t agree with that vision, at least at this point.  Company executives maintained that people really do want to drive—they just don’t want to drive when driving is boring.... road detection for autonomous vehicule and advanced driver assistance systems

road detection is a key issue for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous véhicle (driverless car). Most artificial vision modules detect markings. Recently a French company (NEXYAD) proposed the module RoadNex that detects the borders and the surface of the drivable area on the lane. RoadNex can work on roads with markings, on roads without markings, on roads where markings are not clearly visible because they are exhausted or because vehicles hide markings (and those situations happen every day). Road Detection... [Lire la suite]
