Human Factors in Automated Driving

Human Factors in Automated Driving   Automated driving will fundamentally change road transportation. But the role of humans and human-system interaction need to be clearly established to ensure a smooth ride.   Automated driving technology has the potential to fundamentally change road transportation and improve quality of life. If set on the right track, automated vehicles (AVs) could reduce accidents caused by human errors, increase traffic flow efficiency, increase comfort by allowing the driver to perform... Pentagon: Military will have self-driving vehicles before public

Pentagon: Military will have self-driving vehicles before public The US Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, Michael Griffin, has told Capitol Hill lawmakers that the Pentagon will reap the benefits of self-driving vehicles before the public does. And, according to Griffin, that time can’t come soon enough. While many armed forces are experimenting with driverless tanks (such as the RoBattle, pictured above) and pilotless fighter planes, Griffin explained that more than half of casualties in combat zones... SELF-DRIVING CARS ARE HEADED TOWARD AN AI ROADBLOCK

SELF-DRIVING CARS ARE HEADED TOWARD AN AI ROADBLOCK Skeptics say full autonomy could be farther away than the industry admits If you believe the CEOs, a fully autonomous car could be only months away. In 2015, Elon Musk predicted a fully autonomous Tesla by 2018; so did Google. Delphi and MobileEye’s Level 4 system is currently slated for 2019, the same year Nutonomy plans to deploy thousands of driverless taxis on the streets of Singapore. GM will put a fully autonomous car into production in 2019, with no... [Lire la suite]

Enlighting the future: from autonomous ADAS to autonomous driving

Enlighting the future: from autonomous ADAS to autonomous driving  Automobile is becoming a system with complex controls, communications, power arrangement and computing. It is more and more a mobile in an increasingly information rich networked roadway infrastructure. Automobiles are also being transformed from being a mean of transportation into a place of work and leisure: with no detriment to safety. With regard to safety, automobile industry already made remarkable progress in the second part of the 20th century. We can... [Lire la suite]
