NEW ARCHITECTURE FOR AUTONOMOUS DRIVING INVOLVING DRIVING RISK ASSESSMENT

NEW ARCHITECTURE FOR AUTONOMOUS DRIVING INVOLVING DRIVING RISK ASSESSMENT Architectures of Autonomous Driving systems use to be feed forward open loop chains that are supposed to give a good solution to any problem. Inputs come from sensors that are fusionned in order to bring a good situation understanding. Then a decision making system sends what to do to actuators. This works fine, but of course, whatever the number of validation scenarios, there will always exist cases where the glabal system is not adapted to the situation. ... [Lire la suite]

Widening the Horizons of Autonomous Driving with Advanced Driver Assistance Technology

Widening the Horizons of Autonomous Driving with Advanced Driver Assistance Technology   As urbanization and population ageing continues, traffic accident reduction, alleviation of traffic congestion and reduction of environmental load have become important topics not only for the automotive industry but for society as a whole. Recently, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) has emerged as a milestones in the pursuit of these objectives, and as the functions that make up ADAS are becoming increasingly widespread, fully... The underrated role of HMI in ADAS and autonomous vehicles

The underrated role of HMI in ADAS and autonomous vehicles The recent Autonomous Vehicle interior design symposium held in Novi, gave me some new insights into the important and often under-rated role that HMI plays in the acceptance of ADAS and autonomous vehicle technology. Why HMI is important – “People universally dislike unpredictability and ambiguity” - #Chris Rockwell / Lextant. To trust the system – people always need to know how the vehicle will behave in a given situation and near future. The HMI system... [Lire la suite]

The link (or not) between ADAS and autonomous

The link (or not) between ADAS and autonomous The auto industry in 2016 is as dynamic as ever, suggesting a market with astonishing momentum. Buzz surrounds the coming launch of the Chevy Bolt, the first highway-capable EV with a 200-mile range. The internet is full of images of preproduction Bolts captured in the wild in southeast Michigan and beyond. By 2020, Ford says it will have added 13 new EVs and that more than 40% of its global nameplates will be available in electrified versions. According to various estimates,... [Lire la suite]

3D LiDAR Delivers Automotive Solutions

3D LiDAR Delivers Automotive Solutions One of the hot technologies at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show is 3D LiDAR, which will be critical to the success of autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles. Automotive technology continues to be a hot topic at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. 3D LiDAR is prominent, as it is a key sensor component for advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) and self-driving cars. Two things are driving improvements in 3D LiDAR. The first is improved emitters, since LiDAR... [Lire la suite]

Today’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are gradually evolving into full autonomous vehicle systems.

Today’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are gradually evolving into full autonomous vehicle systems. The hype and overblown expectations continue. And the auto companies along with the many OEM and technology suppliers are collectively spending billions of dollars to create the first practical self-driving (SD) cars. Good progress is being made. Analyzing this effort to create the first automated vehicles (AVs), it is clear what must happen. The challenges are mostly technical, but there are major... [Lire la suite]

You can now catch a Tesla taxi in Dubai

You can now catch a Tesla taxi in Dubai Both the Model S and Model X vehicles will be available to commuters… Back in February we reported that the RTA had committed to buying 200 cars from electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla to add to its limo fleet. We’re not going to lie, we were pretty excited about the prospect of cruising down Sheikh Zayed Road in the back of one of Tesla founder (and real-life Iron Man) Elon Musk’s super-sleek, all-electric vehicles. Well, it looks like that dream is finally going to... [Lire la suite]

Lyft partners with Aptiv to offer robot taxi rides at CES 2018

Lyft partners with Aptiv to offer robot taxi rides at CES 2018 Lyft is partnering with self-driving technology company Aptiv to offer rides in its robot taxis during CES in Las Vegas next week. There will be a safety driver behind the wheel, so the trips will not be completely driverless. Unlike a normal Lyft experience, the cars will only travel to 20 preprogrammed destinations. companies that come to CES to demonstrate self-driving technology do so in closed parking lots where they can control every aspect of the experience....
