Two ex-Google engineers built an entirely different kind of self-driving car

Two ex-Google engineers built an entirely different kind of self-driving car   A new startup that proposes a different spin on autonomous transportation came out of stealth today. The company, called Nuro, was founded by two former lead Google engineers who worked on the famed self-driving car project. Unlike the plethora of self-driving startups out there, Nuro isn’t focused on reconfiguring robot taxis or autonomous trucks, but on designing a new type of vehicle altogether. Gauging the disruptive power of robo-taxis in autonomous driving

Gauging the disruptive power of robo-taxis in autonomous driving The self-driving taxi could ultimately take the global auto industry on a wild ride. Our use-case approach reveals why. Personal mobility could change profoundly in the next two decades. Consumers, who increasingly view mobility as a service, want more choices for traveling between points A and B, including ride hailing, car sharing, and perhaps even self-driving “robo-taxis.” For automakers, the proposed changes could replace the industry’s traditional emphasis... Driverless pods plot new course to overtake humans

Driverless pods plot new course to overtake humans In a little over two years, a fleet of driverless cars will make its way from Oxford to London, completing the entire journey from start to finish without human intervention, including on urban streets and motorways. Organisers of the government-backed project, announced on Monday, still expect to have a human in the driving seat. But as the cars communicate, update on hazards, and automatically react, is the time coming when a human driver is not just redundant but an... [Lire la suite]

Self-driving pods could be the future of urban transport in Greenville

Self-driving pods could be the future of urban transport in Greenville   Imagine for a moment that you push a button and a personal cab arrives to take you to your destination. Instead of traveling on a congested interstate or highway that’s plagued with damaging potholes, your cab quickly zooms off across a system of elevated tracks. That’s the vision of Greenville County Councilman Fred Payne. Payne is one of several local officials leading a new feasibility study of automated transit networks in Greenville, Mauldin, and...
