Twelve things you need to know about driverless cars

Twelve things you need to know about driverless cars From forecourt to scrapyard, a new car in the UK lasts an average of 13.9 years, which is why if you got one today, it might very well be the last car you buy. Over the next decade, accelerating autonomous driving technology, including advances in artificial intelligence, sensors, cameras, radar and data analytics, are set to transform not only how we drive (or, indeed, are driven), but the notion of car ownership itself. “Autonomous driving has become the next major... WABCO advances autonomous through ADAS

WABCO advances autonomous through ADAS   WABCO was busy near the end of 2016, bringing its advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to multiple partnerships to advance autonomous driving and platooning of commercial vehicles. The supplier is working with Silicon Valley-based Peloton Technology to further develop its solution for truck platooning that uses vehicle-to-vehicle communication to sync the braking and acceleration between the trucks. WABCO’s OnGuardACTIVE... [Lire la suite]

The Future Of Car Insurance: Digital, Predictive And Usage-Based

The Future Of Car Insurance: Digital, Predictive And Usage-Based Imagine shopping for your next car insurance and the car company offers an insurance that connects a black box, dongle or a mobile phone app, which tracks how you drive, and saves you up to 30 percent on premiums. This, in essence, is the future of connected car insurance, also called usage-based car insurance (UBI), whereby based on how you drive, when you drive and where you drive, you will receive a competitive quote if you are what the technology deems a ‘safe... 2017 Technology Trends

2017 Technology Trends The haves are breaking away from the have-nots. The trends and innovations that will shape the technology industry over the next several years came into sharper focus in 2016. Cloud computing has gone mainstream for many enterprises, and the Internet of Things (IoT) is changing how both industrial and consumer-oriented companies do business. Drones and autonomous vehicles, blockchain, augmented and virtual reality, increasingly sophisticated digital assistants, machine learning (artificial intelligence, or AI)... [Lire la suite]

13 future car technologies for your road trip in 2020

13 future car technologies for your road trip in 2020 COMPARING THE AUTO INDUSTRY to the computer industry is like comparing two different generations of technology. We’ve got super-fast smartphones and iPods streaming Rhapsody in our pockets, but satellite radio and clunky GPS devices attached to our dashboards. Automakers are aware they’re a little behind the times, and by 2020, many are promising dashboard and safety systems as sophisticated as iPads — maybe even more so. 1. Wifi Obvious, but vital; most of the... [Lire la suite]

Drones and driverless tractors – is this the future of farming?

Drones and driverless tractors – is this the future of farming? On 7 July 1964 the Daily Express published a satirical cartoon, a send-up of Britain’s farming community as it struggled to adapt from its old, rustic world to a new, technological one. The cartoon was set at a Royal Show at a point in the near future. One side of the frame featured a rowdy beer tent, reserved for “drivers and drivers only”. On the other was a marquee with the sign: “Order your Radio-Controlled Tractor”. A driver leans over to his beer-slugging... [Lire la suite]

Startup bringing driverless taxi service to Singapore

Startup bringing driverless taxi service to Singapore An exciting “driverless race” is underway among tech giants the United States: In recent months, Google, Uber, and Tesla have made headlines for developing self-driving taxis for big cities. But a comparatively small MIT spinout, nuTonomy, has entered the race somewhat under the radar. The startup is developing a fleet of driverless taxis to serve as a more convenient form of public transit while helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the densely populated city-state of... Are driverless pods the future for world cities?

Are driverless pods the future for world cities? I've just spent a fascinating morning, being taken around North Greenwich in a driverless pod. It has no steering wheel and is modelled on the white guided pods you may have seen at Heathrow Airport. Lots of companies are racing to develop driverless technology, previously I've been out in a Nissan autonomous car. It nearly ran into the back of a street cleaning vehicle while testing in London. Nissan thinks it will take them five more years to develop it - they have been... [Lire la suite]

Key challenges in automation of earth-moving machines

Key challenges in automation of earth-moving machines A wheel loader is an earth-moving machine used in construction sites, gravel pits and mining to move blasted rock, soil and gravel. In the presence of a nearby dump truck, the wheel loader is said to be operating in a short loading cycle. This paper concerns the moving of material (soil, gravel and fragmented rock) by a wheel loader in a short loading cycle with more emphasis on the loading step. Due to the complexity of bucket-environment interactions, even three decades of... [Lire la suite]
