What will you do with the data from ADAS?

What will you do with the data from ADAS? Advanced driver assistance systems, or ADAS, in heavy trucks employ active braking and other technologies to avoid or reduce the severity of crashes like rear-end or loss-of-control accidents. Now common in some form in the latest passenger cars, ADAS are also expected to be the building blocks of self-driving vehicles in the future. (Photo: Aaron Marsh/ Fleet Owner) During a broadly represented roundtable discussion this week on advanced driver assistance systems, or ADAS, in heavy... [Lire la suite]

Trucking Industry Debates Driver-Assistance Technologies

Trucking Industry Debates Driver-Assistance Technologies The National Safety Council and the National Transportation Safety Board hosted a roundtable discussion prior to this week's Fleet Safety Conference here about the future of advanced driver assistance systems in trucking. The series of discussions brought together leaders in the world of driving assistance technology, the trucking industry, original equipment manufacturers, media, and insurers to talk about the current state of ADAS and how it could most effectively be... ZF introduces 2 new ADAS features for trucks

ZF introduces 2 new ADAS features for trucks ZF Friedrichshafen has unveiled two new advanced driver-assistance features designed to help truck drivers avoid collisions. The Evasive Maneuver Assist (EMA), which the Germany-based automotive supplier developed in cooperation with US vehicle control systems specialist Wabco, automatically steers tractor-trailer combinations around dangerous areas. ZF’s Highway Driving Assist (HDA) offers a combination of lane keeping and adaptive cruise control for trucks. Both technologies make... [Lire la suite]

Compulsory ADAS for European trucks set to expand

Compulsory ADAS for European trucks set to expand EC drive to cut HGV kill rates will see more mandating of driver assistance technology, discovers Siegfried Mortkowitz [Mob.Mortkowitz.2015.12.21] Since 1 November, 2015, all new heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) sold in the European Union have had to be equipped with lane departure warning systems (LDWS) and autonomous emergency braking systems (AEBS). Fitting out trucks and buses with these two advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) was mandated in an European Commission (EC)... [Lire la suite]

50 Mind-Blowing Implications of Self-Driving Cars (and Trucks)

50 Mind-Blowing Implications of Self-Driving Cars (and Trucks) As Uber rolls out its first self-driving taxis in Pittsburgh, Tesla and Mercedesroll out limited self-driving capabilities and cities around the world negotiate with companies who want to bring self-driving cars and trucks to their cities, I thought it might be interesting to think through the implications of a fully implemented self-driving transportation network. Depending on who you listen to, a driverless world could... [Lire la suite]

ADVANCED DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS FOR TRUCKS

ADVANCED DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS FOR TRUCKS Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADASs) are today becoming increasingly common in the market. This also applies to trucks, in particular. In order to quantify the effects of ADASs on truck accidents in Germany, a comprehensive study was performed, using third-party vehicle claims involving personal injury and a total claim value of at least €15,000. This study is based on a total of 443 truck accidents. Statistical methods were used to extrapolate these accidents up to 18,467 claims.... [Lire la suite]

Daimler Trucks testing ADAS using PreScan software

Daimler Trucks testing ADAS using PreScan software While most of the existing systems focus on a limited range of driving situations and use input from a single sensor (e.g. radar-based emergency braking systems or camera-based lane keeping assistance) future active safety systems will use the input of several sensors and assist drivers in highly complex traffic scenarios, thus leading the way toward automated driving. This development puts a big challenge on the Human Machine Interface (HMI). Read more... [Lire la suite]
