The Car Connectivity Consortium® (CCC) is an organization driving global technologies for smartphone-centric car connectivity solutions. The organization has developed MirrorLink®, an open standard for car-smartphone connectivity, in collaboration with cross-industry stakeholders including Car OEM, Tier-I suppliers, Phone Manufacturers, and App Developers, etc. CCC has also expanded its portfolio of technologies to include two very exciting projects: “Digital Key,” where smartphones are used to gain access to the car, and “Car Data,” which builds ecosystems for services such as usage-based insurance, diagnostic, driver health/behavior monitoring, ride hailing and sharing etc. CCC members include a majority of the world’s auto and smartphone manufacturers, along with a who’s who of aftermarket consumer electronics vendors.

The Car Data project is intended to connect consumers to service providers to offer them tailored vehicular services enhanced by vehicle data. The target use cases include usage-based insurance, real-time road condition monitoring, integrated vehicle maintenance, car ride share or hailing services, and more. The Car Data solution will be car, smart device, and service agnostic. The solution will facilitate the exchange of vehicle data and will give control over the data to involved stakeholders. CCC is intended to define an authentication and authorization service platform that will enable data provider to offer car data through any market place, while preventing uncontrolled dissemination and use, without explicit consent. The Car Data project is currently in the requirements and use case phase.
